Mean and mode 

Mode is the most popular or highest number on a set of data. The item with the tallest or longest bar in a bar chart is mode.

The mean is the sum of items divided by the number of items.

Example 

1. The marks scored by a certain number of pupils in a test are 2, 3, 5, 5, 6, 6, 6, 7.  Find the (a) mode (b) mean of the data

   Solution 

   (a)  The mode is 6, being the number which occurs most often

   (b)  Mean score = (2+3+5+5+6+6+6+7) /8

   = 40/8 = 5
