FINLANDIA SCHOOLTopic: Energy
Content
Energy is the ability to do work. Everything that moves or works needs energy.
USES OF ENERGY
Mechanical energy is required to do work
Electricity energy is used for cooking, cooling, heating, lighting, etc
Nuclear energy is used to generate electricity
Wind energy is used to sail boat
Chemical energy is used for transportation
Solar energy is used by plants
SOURCES OF ENERGY
The sun (solar energy)
The sun is the primary source of energy. Energy from the sun is called solar energy. It give us light. Trees and plants absorb solar energy.
Fossil fuels (chemical energy)
Coal, petroleum and natural gas are fossil fuels. It began as plant and animals that was buried many years ago.
Oil shale (chemical energy)
Oil shale holds a large amount of kerogen. Kerogen is formed from once living material.
Wind (wind energy)
Wind can turn windmills to produce electricity
Water (hydro and tidal energy)
It source is the gravitation from sun and moon. It gives us electricity.
Rock beneath the earth (geothermal energy)
Radioactive energy (nuclear energy)
