DOXCOV ACADEMYSubject: Health Habit Class: Pre-Nursery (Ages 2–3) Theme: My Environment and My Health Duration: 40 Minutes of Integrated Learning
A clean environment is a place that is neat, tidy, and smells very fresh. Imagine a classroom where all the toys are inside their baskets, the books are sitting straight on the shelf, and the floor is so shiny you can almost see your face in it! In a clean place, there is no "dirty-dirty" (trash) on the ground. Everything has a home, and everything is in its home.
When we talk about a clean environment in our homes and school, we mean a place where the air feels good to breathe. In Nigeria, we keep our environment clean by using our brooms to sweep away the dust and sand every morning. A clean place is a happy place because it is safe. You can run and jump without tripping over a stray toy or slipping on a banana peel. It is a place where we feel like singing and playing because it looks beautiful.
A dirty environment is a place that is messy and has things where they do not belong. When people throw biscuit wrappers, "pure water" nylons (sachet water plastics), or leftover food on the floor instead of putting them in the bin, the environment becomes dirty. A dirty place is often called "scatter-scatter" because things are not in their proper places.
A dirty environment also has a bad smell. This bad smell is like a "dinner bell" for flies, cockroaches, and mosquitoes. If we leave dirty water in a bucket outside, mosquitoes will come to stay there. If we leave crumbs on the floor, ants and flies will come to eat them. A dirty environment looks sad, smells bad, and makes us want to cover our noses and stay away.
We keep our surroundings clean because we want to be Health Heroes. In every dirty place, there are tiny, tiny "bugs" called germs. Germs are so small that we cannot see them with our eyes, but they love to live in trash and dirt.
If we play in a dirty place and then touch our faces or our food, those germs can crawl into our bodies and give us a "tummy ache" or make us feel very hot with a fever. By keeping our environment clean, we are destroying the homes of these germs. When we pick up a piece of paper and put it in the dustbin, we are making sure that flies do not bring sickness to our friends and family. Cleanliness keeps our bodies strong and our hearts happy!
Scenario 1: The Biscuit Wrapper Hero Imagine you just finished eating a delicious biscuit at the playground. Your hands are a little sticky, and you have the plastic wrapper in your hand. Instead of dropping it on the green grass where people play, you walk to the big blue bucket (the dustbin) and drop it inside. That is keeping the environment clean!
Scenario 2: The Toy Organizer After playing with building blocks in the parlor, the floor is covered in colorful squares. If someone walks by, they might step on a block and get hurt. When you pick up the blocks and put them back into their basket, you are making the room neat and safe.
Scenario 3: The Spilled Juice If a little bit of juice spills on the table, it becomes sticky. If we leave it there, ants will come to visit. When we tell Mummy or Teacher so they can wipe it up with a cloth, we are making the environment shiny and clean again.
